Sanna Manjang, a former member of the notorious Junglers has been arrested in the Casamance Region of southern Senegal, government confirmed over the weekend.

The Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, through a press release disclosed the arrest following an operation.

The operation was conducted early Friday morning as part of a coordinated effort between Gambian and Senegalese security forces.

Manjang has been a fugitive since January 2017 and is named in the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC)’s report for his role in serious human rights violations under the former Yahya Jammeh regime, including torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings. His capture marks a major step in the pursuit of justice for victims of past abuses.

According to the Ministry of Information, arrangements are underway for Manjang’s repatriation to The Gambia, where he will face legal processing in accordance with the law. The government emphasized that the stability, peace, and security of the country remained a top priority and would not be compromised.

The press release highlighted the strong cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal, describing the arrest as a testament to the countries’ commitment to regional security and accountability. The Ministry also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to justice and protection of human rights for all citizens.

Officials described Manjang’s capture as both a symbolic and practical victory in holding perpetrators of past abuses accountable. Analysts note that this development may serve as a deterrent to other fugitives who remain at large and reinforce the TRRC’s mandate.

The Ministry assures the public that updates on the repatriation process and subsequent legal proceedings will be provided, and called on citizens to continue supporting the rule of law and national reconciliation efforts.
