Former NPP Chairman from Julangel Ward Joins GDC, Sparking Hope for 2026 Elections

In a significant political shift, Ebrima Bah, the former NPP chairman of the Julangel Ward, has joined the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC). Bah, a native of Bass, the same region as the leader of the ruling party, has made headlines with his decision, which many view as a notable shift in Gambia’s political landscape.

The announcement was made official by GDC Administrative Secretary 1, Hon. Ebrima Nyang, who welcomed Bah to the party in an audio message. Nyang described Bah’s decision as a “great achievement” for the GDC, emphasizing that such a defection from the ruling party to the opposition has not occurred since the days of the PPP and APRC.

Hon. Nyang expressed his excitement and encouraged all Gambians to join the GDC, which he described as the solution to the country’s challenges. He praised GDC leader Hon. Mamma Kandeh for his dedication and contributions to the development of the country across all regions, noting that Kandeh’s hard work has earned the trust of the Gambian people.

In his message, Nyang thanked Ebrima Bah for prioritizing the interests of the Gambian people over personal financial gain by leaving the NPP for the GDC. He called Bah’s decision a significant loss for the NPP and a promising sign for the upcoming 2026 elections. Nyang concluded by confidently stating that the GDC is poised to take over in 2026, with no doubt about their victory.

The GDC’s growing momentum, highlighted by this latest defection, signals a shift in the political dynamics as the 2026 elections approach.
