A senior Senegalese politician at the centre of a major financial crime investigation, Farba Ngom was brought by ambulance under escort to Senegal’s Financial Judicial Pool this morning, as legal proceedings in the case continue.
Ngom, the former mayor of Agnam and a prominent figure in the former ruling APR party, has been in detention since February 2025 over allegations of fraud and money laundering involving about 31 billion CFA francs, linked to a wider financial investigation initially estimated at 125 billion CFA francs.
Since his detention, his lawyers have made several attempts to secure his release, repeatedly citing medical grounds, requests that have so far been rejected by judicial authorities.
His appearance comes amid ongoing disputes over his health, with prosecutors maintaining that the legal conditions for provisional release have not been met.
