Deputy Governor of West Coast Region, Hon. Musa Amul Nyassi, has dismissed claims linking the recent seizure of official rubber stamps from three Foni Bintang Alkalos (Village heads) to their absence from President Adama Barrow’s “Meet the People” tour in Sibanor village last week.
The Alkalolu of Kaimo, Bantending, and Sitta villages had reportedly had their stamps confiscated, sparking public criticisms and concerns from the National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang Constituency. Some residents alleged the action was politically motivated, tied to the Alkalolu nonattendance at the presidential event.
Hon. Nyassi, however, rejected these narratives, describing them as “unfounded and misleading.” He explained that the stamps were seized due to the Alkalolu’s repeated failure to respond to summonses from the district chief, which he said amounts to undermining the authority of regional leadership.
“I want to debunk the rumours circulating about the seizure of the stamps of the three Alkalos. This is not related to the presidential tour,” Nyassi told reporters. “The seizure is a consequence of the Alkalolu not heeding the call of the chief. They have consistently failed to attend district authority meetings, despite representing their communities directly under the chief, who represents the governor in the district.”
He emphasized the role of Alkalolu as local representatives of chiefs, governors, and ultimately the President, stressing that their duty includes attending district authority meetings and relaying community concerns. “If you are not answering the call of the chief or attending district meetings, you are undermining authority. That cannot be condoned,” he said.
Nyassi also confirmed that both the chief and the affected Alkalos have been invited to a meeting on 4th December 2025, during which the Alkalolu will be asked to provide evidence of their attendance at prior meetings. He noted that first-time offenders who acknowledge their lapses will be forgiven, but failure to provide proof or apology may result in legal consequences.
The Deputy Governor concluded by reaffirming that regional authorities have never compelled any Alkalo to attend presidential events and would not do so, urging Alkalolu to view such events as opportunities to raise pressing issues affecting their communities.
