Defence Witness Continues Testifying In Airport Cocaine Case

By: Nicholas Bass

The sixth defence witness, Lamin Ceesay, on Tuesday continued his testimony in the Banjul International Airport cocaine case involving five Gambian youths.

Testifying before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of Banjul High Court, Ceesay told the court that the joint investigators accused him of giving his vehicle to Ousman for the transportation of the three bags of cocaine.

Ceesay stated that when he was brought before the Joint Investigation panel at Kairaba DLEAG headquarters, a member of the panel threatened to send him to Mile Two if he refused to thumbprint his statement.

Still testifying, the witness told the court that when he maintained his stand – refusing to sign the statement that was presented to him, the Joint Investigation panel sent him back to CTI at Bijilo, where he was placed under the custody of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia.

According to him, he later accepted to thumbprint the statement that was presented to him as he was compelled to do so.

When pressed by defense lawyer Abdoulie Jarjue whether he was informed of his rights to take a lawyer at the time he was put under custody, he responded negatively.
