The Fatu Network’s reporter, Mama A. Touray, currently in China as part of a delegation of journalists and media professionals from “Belt and Road” countries, has reported on a day-long visit to key media institutions and the Dalian National Stadium in Dalian City.
The visit, which took the team to the Dalian Radio and Television Station, Dalian News Media and Live Broadcasting Co. Ltd, Dalian News Media Group, and the Dalian National Stadium, aimed to give participants a deeper understanding of the integration and transformation of local Chinese media and the development of new digital platforms.
The newsroom tour followed four days of interactive sessions held earlier in Beijing on new media operations and management across “Belt and Road” countries.
During the sessions, participants were lectured on Xi Jinping’s thought on culture, China’s media industry, and the National Radio and Television Administration’s (NRTA) international cooperation, along with China’s national conditions from a cultural perspective. They also learned new approaches to communication through modern media platforms, including the essentials of news writing such as attribution and accuracy.
At the Dalian Media Group headquarters, the delegation interacted with TV hosts and technical staff and held a question-and-answer session to understand the advanced broadcasting technologies in use.
The team also visited the scenic viewing tower, formerly known as the Dalian Radio and Television Tower, which offers panoramic views of the city. A director at the site explained that the tower, built in 1987 by Japanese engineers, stands 190 metres high with a 360-degree view of Dalian. “It houses 25 local TV channels and ranks among the top ten tourist destinations in the city,” he said.
The delegation later proceeded to the Dalian National Stadium, a modern sports facility established in 2023 and surrounded by the sea on three sides. According to the tour guide, “the total area of the stadium is about 26.5 hectares, with a total construction area of approximately 136,000 square metres, designed to accommodate 63,000 spectators.” She added that the stadium’s design was inspired by waves and seashells, symbolising Dalian’s coastal identity.
Reporting from Dalian, The Fatu Network’s Mama A. Touray noted that participants will continue their site visits to other parts of the coastal city in the coming days.
