  By Cecilia E. L. Mendy

The second accused person in the Sukuta Jabang police shooting incident, Amie Bojang, on Monday continued her testimony before the Banjul High Court, presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh.

Testifying in court, Bojang told the court that on the day of the incident, she was instructed to report to the charge office, after which she was taken to the Banjulinding Police Station. She explained that she was transferred from the Anti-Crime Unit to Banjulinding, where she was detained, and later returned to the Anti-Crime Unit.

According to her, she remained in detention until evening without being informed of the reason for her arrest.

Bojang further testified that she was detained for more than a week before being informed that she would be taken to court. She said she made a statement on the first day of her arrest and later made a second statement.

During her testimony, the statement was shown to her in court for confirmation. She confirmed recognizing the statement bearing her phone number. Under questioning by defence counsel A. Sillah, Bojang said she could not read the statement as she is not educated, but maintained that she recognized the one containing her phone number.

She told the court that after the statement was written, she was informed that she was being accused of helping Ousainou Bojang to escape—an allegation she denied.

Bojang further testified that she was later taken from the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court back to the Anti-Crime Unit. She added that while detained at Banjulinding Police Station, she was at one point placed in the same cell with male detainees, though she was separated from them in the evenings.

She said she later fell ill and was taken to the Yundum Army Camp for treatment. After two weeks, she was informed that she would be transferred to Mile Two Central Prison, where she was transported alongside with Ousainou Bojang.

According to her testimony, she did not see Ousainou again until they were taken to the Kanifing Court. She added that Ousainou was later brought to where she was seated and complained that he was being forced to confess to a killing he did not commit.

Bojang also told the court that police officers who searched her house seized Ousainou Bojang’s passport and national identity card, which she said remained in police custody.

She denied claims that Ousainou Bojang had links with rebels in Casamance, stating that she had never seen him with a gun.

State counsel A.M. Yusouf appeared for the prosecution, while counsel J. Jenj represented the first accused person and counsel A. Sillah appeared for the second accused.

The case was adjourned to 16th December 2025.
