Christians across the length and breadth of the Gambia are currently on Easter festivities and call for renewal of faith as they reflect on the life of their messiah Jesus Christ.
Peter Mendy, a Catholic from Brikama, said The Easter is a moment of spiritual connection with God and not a mere merry making.”We are united our shared values of selflessness, humility, and service. These were the central themes christ and his discipline.
Quoting from Isaiah 53:5—“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our inequities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed”—he emphasized that the values embodied by the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ are ones that transcend religious boundaries.
For his part mr Daniel Bass of Farsto asseted that the values of humility, selflessness, and service are foundational not only to Christians’ spiritual lives but also to the work they carry out each day for the people. “Easter reminds us that our work must always be grounded in compassion, integrity, and a desire to uplift those we serve.”he added.
Madeline Sambou of Jalambang pointed out that Easter is not only to remember the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross but also to proclaim that His sacrifice has not been in vain. His service, he said, was a powerful reminder that Christ’s resurrection brings them into closer relationship with God, and this relationship must be reflected in every aspect of their lives.
Most of the people who spoke to this medium extend warm wishes for a blessed and joyous Easter season, noting that this sacred time brings peace, renewal, and a reaffirmed commitment to service and compassion.
