By: Kemo Kanyi

The Brikama Sports Committee (BSC) has issued disciplinary sanctions against 11 teams and several officials participating in the ongoing summer Nawettan tournament, citing unsporting behaviour and violations of match regulations.

The affected clubs include Wellingara United F.C., Senior Players F.C., Power Station F.C., Daru F.C., Puntalana F.C., Dangam F.C., Nema F.C., Scovill F.C., New Town United F.C., New Generation F.A., and Santo-Su United F.C.

According to the committee, the measures are a response to incidents observed during recent matches and are aimed at upholding discipline, protecting match officials, and maintaining the integrity of the competition.

Among the sanctions, Wellingara United F.C. was fined D3,000 for attacking a referee, while their coach, Saikou, was fined D2,000 for insulting match officials. Bunja Jammeh of Power Station F.C. received a four-match ban and a D2,000 fine for attacking the referee, and Ismaila Drammeh was fined D1,500 for attempting to destroy a dressing room door.

Dangam F.C. officials and players also faced severe penalties: Head Coach Abdou Ceesay was banned for four matches due to explosive behaviour and misconduct, while Nure Darboe was fined D2,000 for attacking and insulting match officials. Both Dangam F.C. and Puntalana F.C. were fined D2,000 each for indiscipline.

Scovill F.C. saw multiple sanctions, with Abdoulie Jabbi banned for four matches and fined D2,000 for dual cautions and attacking the referee. Kebba Jammeh was also banned for four matches, fined D2,000, and ordered to submit a written apology to the referee within five days, failing which the matter will be escalated to the Police. Bubacarr Jatta, an official, received a warning to refrain from misconduct.

Additional bans include Ebrima Jatta of Scovill F.C. (three matches) for physically attacking a referee, Modoulamin Drammeh (Ngarry) banned from entering BoxBa for one month, and Bakary Sanyang of New Generation F.A. banned for three matches for assaulting Organising Committee members. Santo-Su United’s Madi Kanyi was fined D500 for assaulting an OC member and damaging property.

BSC emphasized that all fines must be paid before teams’ next scheduled matches and that bans are effective immediately. Clubs have been warned that further violations may result in heavier penalties, including police involvement.

The committee reiterated that violence, threats, and indiscipline have no place in the sporting community, urging all teams and officials to uphold respect, sportsmanship, and accountability in the Nawettan tournament.
