By Cecilia E.L. Mendy

The cross-examination of Amie Bojang in connection with the Sukuta Jabang police shooting incident continued on Tuesday as the case resumed at the Banjul High Court presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh.

Amie Bojang told the court that she and the first accused, Ousainou Bojang, shared the same parents and are among five siblings. She said Ousainou was born in Jedel Bamba Dinka, Ziguinchor.

According to her testimony, Ousainou visited her home in Yumbum on Monday to discuss personal issues. She stated that she did not know how he arrived but confirmed that he came to see her.

She further said that on Tuesday, 23 September 2023, she spoke with Ousainou on the phone around 8:00 p.m., during which he discussed problems he was having with a woman named Gloria, clarifying that Gloria was not married to him.

Responding to questions from state counsel A.M. Yusuf, Amie said Ousainou had informed her on Monday about his dispute with Gloria. She added that he had intended to travel to Casamance that day, but she advised him to wait.

Amie testified that Ousainou claimed Gloria was threatening to expose his nude pictures. She said she did not see the images herself but confirmed that he described them as nude pictures.

She also said the siblings have a sister living in Kolda but added that she did not know whether Ousainou had visited her there. When asked about his intention to travel to Kolda, she said he wanted spiritual assistance from a marabou to resolve his issues with Gloria.

Amie noted that Ousainou worked at a lodge owned by several people, including Catherine and Gloria. She also said that while traveling toward the border, she noticed the presence of Police Intervention Unit (PIU) officers but was unaware of their activities, as her focus was on Ousainou’s dispute.

State counsel A.M. Yusuf suggested that Amie had hired a taxi for Ousainou to help him evade arrest. Amie denied the claim, stating she found him chatting with people and added that someone who kills would flee. She testified that Ousainou did not hide, and she accompanied him to the garage, negotiating the fare for a motorcycle to take him to Jululung.

“I am not covering for Ousainou,” Amie told the court. “I am saying what I saw and know. I am a woman, and I would not help Ousainou escape if he was involved in a killing.”

Counsel A.M. Yusuf appeared for the State, while Counsel J. Jenj represented the first accused, and Counsel A. Sillah represented the second accused.

The case was adjourned to 27 February 2026 for the adoption of briefs.
