Beakanyang calls for the revival of traditional methods of conflict resolution.

Mr Nfamara Jawno Jawneh, the Executive Director of Beakayang calls on the communities of Makumbaya and Bafuloto to revive and encourage the traditional Methods of conflict resolution.

Mr Jawneh was speaking at the Badinbung Bantaba Session at Makumbaya, Busumbala District on Sunday.

” We have deviated and abandoned the traditional Methods of mediation and social cohesion. This method has not been followed nowadays. Dadinbung is a Mandinka word that means family house and enhances togetherness. ”

Mr added that the ‘ Badinbung ‘ initiative has selected community leaders within selected communities to amicably resolve conflict in consultation with the village head ( Alkalo) as well as the chief.

He referred to previous elders who amicably resolved trivial communal and family disputes to avoid escalation.

“To forgive each other the past human rights violations, the perpetrators need to confess and ask for forgiveness.

It could be recalled that the ‘ Badinbung initiative was conceived based on the past human rights violations perpetrated during former President Jammeh’s regime. As a result, many relationships were broken.
