The Democratic Party hereby confirms to the general public, all media houses, and the people of The Gambia that the party has unanimously agreed to join hands with Team Gambia Grand Coalition 2026 in the spirit of solidarity with the Gambian people.
This alliance reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that the will of the people is respected and that no sitting president, now or in the future, can circumvent the aspirations of the Gambian people by relying on a constitutional framework that was overwhelmingly rejected by the electorate in the 2016 constitutional referendum.
As a member of Team Gambia Grand Coalition 2026 and the flag bearer of the Democratic Party, Professor Dr. Usupha Dumbuya recognizes that the task of national transformation cannot be accomplished by one individual or political party alone. The work remains unfinished until all opposition candidates and political parties can come together in pursuit of the collective aspirations of the Gambian people.
Our shared objective is to strengthen democratic governance, uphold the will of the people, and prevent any incumbent president from pursuing a third presidential term, now or in the future, in accordance with the democratic principles and constitutional arrangements that the Gambian people support.
The Democratic Party therefore positions itself as a unifying force, committed to the greater national cause of restoring power to the people and building a Gambia where the interests of citizens remain at the heart of governance.
OUR PROMISE TO THE GAMBIAN PEOPLE
The Democratic Partyโs doors remain wide open to every Gambian citizen who believes in democracy, national unity, accountability, and good governance.
Equally, our doors remain open to dialogue with all political parties, alliances, and movements across the country. We believe that constructive engagement, mutual respect, and a willingness to put national interests above individual political ambitions are essential to achieving meaningful change through the ballot box in 2026.
Professor Dumbuya firmly believes that the service of the nation must come before the ambition of any individual to become a presidential candidate. Leadership is about serving the people, not insisting that one must be the candidate or that no one else should lead.
In this spirit, the Democratic Party calls upon all opposition political parties, candidates, alliances, and movements to seriously consider coming together under one broad political alliance by 15 November 2026.
We believe that a united opposition, built on dialogue, mutual understanding, and a shared national vision, can provide a platform for citizens to determine the countryโs future through a democratic and peaceful electoral process.
