Historic Appointment for The Gambia in Africa Regional Antidoping Organization

In a landmark achievement for The Gambia, Dr. Omar Jagne, Chief Executive Officer of Africmed International Hospital, has been unanimously elected Vice Chair of the Africa Regional Antidoping Organization (RADO). The election took place during the recent meeting of member country representatives in Cairo, Egypt, on September 16th and 17th, 2026.

This marks the first time The Gambia has held such a prestigious position within RADO, underscoring the nationโ€™s growing influence in continental health and sports governance. Dr. Jagneโ€™s appointment is seen as a major step forward in strengthening The Gambiaโ€™s role in promoting integrity and fair play in sports across Africa.

The Africa Regional Antidoping Organization convenes annually to set the agenda for antidoping education, monitoring, and testing under the auspices of the World Antidoping Agency (WADA). Among the key issues discussed at this yearโ€™s meeting was preparation for the adoption of the new 2027 Antidoping Code, which will guide future policies and practices across the continent.

Member countries of RADO include Ethiopia, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia, Burundi, South Sudan, The Gambia, Eritrea, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone.

Dr. Jagneโ€™s election is widely regarded as a proud moment for The Gambia, reflecting the countryโ€™s commitment to advancing sports ethics and health standards. It also signals a new era of Gambian leadership in regional and international sports governance.
