𝐆𝐈𝐃 𝐅𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐈𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐬, 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬 𝟏𝟎𝟒 𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐂𝐑

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) on 17 September 2026 intercepted 104 prospective irregular migrants in two separate operations in the West Coast Region (WCR).

In Batokunku, the GID’s Border Patrol Unit (BPU) and Migration Management Unit (MMU), based in Tanji, intercepted 23 Gambian nationals, comprising 18 males, 5 females, and 1 minor. A Senegalese national suspected of migrant smuggling was also arrested and remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

In a separate operation in Sanyang, a joint team comprising the GID, Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), and Gambia Police Force (GPF) disrupted a planned irregular sea departure, intercepting 81 prospective migrants, including 21 Gambians, 50 Senegalese, and 10 Guineans. The group comprised 78 males, 2 females, and 1 minor.

The operations reaffirm the GID’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration in combating irregular migration and transnational organised crime while strengthening border management and governance.
