The UNITE Movement for Change (UMC) has officially elected Kanifing Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda as its Party Leader and flag bearer, following its inaugural National Congress held today at Paradise Suites Hotel. This milestone marks a turning point in Gambian opposition politics as the party prepares for the December 2026 presidential elections.
Delegates from across the country and the diaspora ratified UMC’s constitution, formalized its structure as a political party, and chose a new national executive. In a unanimous and widely expected decision, Bensouda emerged as the leader to carry the party’s banner into the upcoming polls.
UMC has set its sights on building the largest opposition coalition since 2016, with a vision rooted in unity, integrity, and transformative governance. In his acceptance speech, Bensouda urged Gambians to join the movement’s call for national renewal and collective progress.
