Juliana Stratton the deputy governor or otherwise known as Lieutenant Governor in the United States, Illinois State, has won the hotly contested seat for democratic nomination to replace longtime Senator Dick DURBIN who’s retiring in November after serving 44 years in Congress. Senator Durbin was first elected in 1982 in the U.S House of Representatives before been elected in to the Senate in 1997. He is the second highest Democratic Senator in the House. Last year, he announced that he would not seek for another term in 2026.
Juliana Stratton who was endorsed by billionaire Governor of Illinois State JB Pritzker faced with two other members of the U. S House of Representatives Robin Kelly and Raja Krisnamoorth. Stratton blamed her opponents of not doing enough to challenge President Donald Trump in the House.
Stratton will be facing Republican Don Tracy in November midterm elections.If elected, she would become the sixth black woman to serve in the United States senate and will join two other Senators Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland and Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware as three black women to serve simultaneously in the Senate for the first time.
Born and raised in the South side of Chicago , Stratton previously worked as a lawyer before entering politics in 2016 when she was elected in to the State House of Assembly. In 2018 Governor JB Pritzker picked her as his running mate and they are elected overwhelming serving as his deputy. Stratton 60, could serve many years in Congress if elected in November as Illinois is deeply a blue state.
Democrats are hoping to regain control of both Houses of Congress currently being controlled by the Republicans.
