Ensuring a vibrant economy: President Barrow meets members of the Economic Council

President Adama Barrow recently meet with the members of the Economic Council at a ceremony held at the State House in Banjul. The Economic Council is created to tackle issues relating to the economy, review performance of state institutions and parastatals and advise the president on the state of the economy.

The council which is headed by the president as Chairman consists of the Ministers of Finance, Trade and Agriculture, Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority ( GRA), , Director General of GIEPA and other relevant stakeholders. The council is scheduled to sit every month to discuss and highlight the state of the economy.

In the inaugural meeting, the president singlehandedly thanked the Gambia Revenue Authority under the dynamic leadership of Yankuba Darboe for their fulfillment in domestic tax mobilization out passing it’s targets on an yearly basis.

It could be recalled that GRA sets a target of collecting 23 billion dalasi in 2025 which was met as they collected over 25 billion. The revenue target of 2026 is 28 billion dalasi as revealed by CG Darboe at the end of the year’s press conference held earlier this year at the Revenue House in Banjul
