NIGERIA APPOINTS NEW ENVOY TO THE GAMBIA.

Honourable Tasiu Musa Maigari has been confirmed by Senate and approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the new Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia. Honourable Tasiu Musa is a non career diplomat and until his appointment is the Speaker of the Katsina House of Assembly. He will replace Mohammed Manu who was in the country since 2021 completing his five years tenure.

On Friday March 6th 2026, President Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors to Nigerian missions around the world comprising 34 career ( diplomat) and 31 non career ( political).

Some of the key appointments includes Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu London, United Kingdom, Lt General Abdourahmane Bello Dambazau, Beijing China, Ayodele Oke, Paris France, Mahmud Yakubu Doha, Qatar, Abdousalam Habu Zayyad Dakar Senegal, Satau Hamza Mohammed Tehran Iran, Amb Ayem Adebayo Emanuel Brussels Belgium Yakubu Gambia Riyadh Saudi Arabia and Prof Isaak Folorunso Adewole Ottawa Canada among others.

Nigeria and the Gambia has in the past enjoyed bilateral cooperation especially in security and trade. Nigeria currently boast of having soldiers in the Gambia which is part of the ECOWAS intervention force force dubbed Restore Democracy in the Gambia .
