Minister Badjie Expounds on D10 Million Audit Query

By Kemo Kanyi

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie has explained the D10,000,000.00 that the National Audit Office flagged his ministry.

The ministry stated that the amount in question was an approval made to the Ministry in 2020, and it was not within the three-year renovation project currently underway at the Independence Stadium, adding that information was provided to the Auditor but it still reflected in their report about the renovation concern that started in January 2023 and still continues.

“The D10 million was an allocation made in 2020. We gave that information to the auditors, but they still included that in their report. We don’t know their reason for this,” the Minister argued during a presser on Tuesday at the Independence Stadium’s press conference room.

He informs the media that the total expenditure made by the government since the commencement of the renovation work stands at D376 million, stating that the pitch at the stadium is expected to complete in three months as it’s been assured to them by the contractors.

Mr. Ebou Faye, the general manager of the Independence Stadium, informs the journalists that all competition areas have been approved by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) except the pitch.
