The Gambian and Nigerian foreign ministers have held talks in Abuja aimed at strengthening diplomatic and development cooperation between the two West African nations.
Gambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sering Modou Njie, met Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, during the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government Summit.
The discussions focused on reinforcing what both sides described as long-standing and friendly relations, as well as exploring ways to deepen collaboration across key sectors.
Mr Njie expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s support to The Gambia in areas including defence and security, health services, education and the judiciary, according to an official statement.
Nigeria has played a significant role in providing technical assistance and capacity-building support to The Gambia over the years.
Both ministers said they remained committed to closer bilateral engagement, guided by shared regional interests and cooperation within ECOWAS.
They also reaffirmed their intention to continue working together to promote stability and development in the sub-region.
