Chaos erupted in Mandinary continued into Saturday as residents took to the streets to demand justice for Omar Badjie, who reportedly died following an alleged confrontation with police.
Furious locals burned tyres, chanted slogans, and blocked roads, turning the normally quiet community into a scene of unrest.
Police have denied any responsibility for Badjie’s death, insisting no excessive force was used.
But residents are unconvinced, claiming he was beaten to death, and their anger has only intensified.
On Saturday, protesters staged a solidarity march, carrying placards with messages demanding accountability.
The mood was tense but determined, with leaders urging calm while warning authorities they would not be intimidated.
“If the police come with their guns, let no one run away,” one protest leader shouted. “Even if they arrest us, we are ready. Know your rights and don’t use foul language,” he added, rallying the crowd.
Meanwhile, police have arrested nineteen people from the community in an effort to restore order.
Locals, however, vowed they would remain on the streets until all detainees were released.
Residents’ frustration is fueled not only by Omar Badjie’s death but by long-standing grievances over police conduct in the area.
