It is a day of rewarding for parents and guardians in Sotuma Samba in Jimara, URR, for honoring their pledge to protect their girls from the devastating effects of FGM and child marriage.
It’s almost one year since Beakayang launched its LAHIDO (Promise) project in the Jimara settlement.
During the period ,the organization used people centered approach to educate and empower communities with the right information and knowledge about the effects of harmful traditional practices such as FGM and Child Marriage.
Throughout the the year, with the support of her community based facilitators and moral guarantors Beakanyang constantly monitored the girls enrolled in its programme to ensure they remained safe and protected.
The organization returned to the community to also deliver its promise by providing 60 goats to children under the program. The goats are meant for the protected girls.
“With the coming of LAHIDO, FGM and Child Marriage are becoming a thing of the past and we are very much empowered by Beakanyang to abandon these harmful practices. We are also happy that while we kept our promises you also delivers on yours today,” Sireng Jawo said.
Beakanyang thanks the UNFPA and ChildFund for supporting its approach aimed at ending harmful traditional practices in URR.
