On Thursday, Beakanyang launched a renewable energy and energy-efficient cooking stove project at Nyakoi Taibatou in the Wuli West District of the Upper River Region.
As part of the activity, the organisation also laid the foundation for constructing a modern solar-powered welding house in the community.
In his launching statement, the Executive Director, Mr Nfamara Jawneh, thanked UNDP for supporting the project.
According to him, the project will train local welders and potters in improved stove production.
“It will also create employment opportunities for the youth and build a viable improved stoves production business in the area,” he said.
The Alkalo of Taibatou, Alhagie Bemba Jabby thanked Beakanyang for the project.
He stressed the need for more local climate actions to mitigate its effects on the people.
Muhammad Ceesay from the regional forestry office spoke on the importance of such as project.
He urged women in the area to embrace renewable energy solutions and improve cooking stoves to reduce emissions and promote cleaner energy.
Mrs Dusu Jatta, speaking on behalf of women, applauded Beakanyang for such an inclusive project.
Beneficiary Abubacarr Jawneh expressed their gratitude to Beakanyang and UNDP for such a life-changing project.
Other speakers include representatives from
the NGO Affairs Agency and the District Youth Committee of Wuli West.
