In what commenced as welcoming news to the citizens of The Gambia, the GID delegation—led by Commissioner Foday Gassama, accompanied by a representative of the Ministry of Interior, Mariama Ceesay, and Furqan Ahmed Siddiqi, the Financial Controller of Africard—wrapped up the three-day sensitization program on the expansion of biometric passport enrollment services in Kerewan, North Bank Region.
The delegation met with the Regional Governor of North Bank Region, Hon. Alhagie Lamin Saidykhan; Chairman of Kerewan Area Council, Hon. Papa Tunkara; Commissioner of Police, Juldeh Camara; Senior Chief of Upper Baddibu District, Alhagie Mustapha Dibba; other district chiefs, village Alkalolus, and elders in Kerewan.
The final phase of the tour witnessed a friendly atmosphere in NBR, filled with joy and celebration over the decentralization initiative. Hon. Governor Saidykhan extended appreciation to the Government of The Gambia and The Gambia Immigration Department, describing the initiative as a landmark accomplishment in bringing services closer to the people.
Speaking at the occasion, Senior Chief Alh. Mustapha Dibba and Chairman Papa Tunkara both reiterated the region’s appreciation of the initiative and extended assurances to the GID of continued collaboration and future sensitization programs aimed at enhancing public awareness.
The regional tour has fostered a strong community spirit, highlighting the significance of championing grassroots engagement, embracing relevant information sharing for effective service delivery, and respecting the opinions and inputs of the citizenry in the provision of government services.
The GID extends appreciation to all regional governors, district chiefs, Alkalolus, and Regional Immigration Authorities for their hospitality and support throughout the engagement.
