The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), with support from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Bank Group, on Tuesday, 14th May, commenced a two-day National Healthy SABER Review Workshop at the Ocean Bay Hotel in Bakau.
The Healthy SABER (System Analysis for Better Education Results) is a government led self assessment tool designed to evaluate existing school health and nutrition policies and programmes. This includes school meals and other essential health services, measured against internationally recognized benchmarks for quality and effectiveness.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Ousman Bah, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Administration at MoBSE, emphasized the importance of the exercise. He noted that the review will help identify and document existing achievements, highlight areas for easy improvement, and prioritize interventions that can enhance the quality and sustainability of school health and nutrition services. Mr. Bah also underscored the value of improving coordination with related services to maximize benefits for learners.
The initiative marks a significant step in MoBSEโs commitment to strengthening school health and nutrition systems for better learning outcomes across The Gambia.
