By: Saikou Jawo

The highly anticipated annual sports competition at Yunus English School wrapped up in a thrilling finale, with Red House emerging victorious. The event, which took place on day two of the competition, began with an inspiring speech from Principal Mr. Lamin Tabally during the opening ceremony. Mr. Tabally took the opportunity to underscore the importance of discipline, urging students to approach both their academic and extracurricular pursuits with dedication and focus.

He emphasized that education extends beyond the classroom, with physical education playing a key role in developing well-rounded individuals. “Education doesn’t stop in the four corners of the classroom,” he remarked, encouraging students to embrace sports seriously as part of their personal growth and leadership development.

In his motivating address, Mr. Tabally reassured students that success is defined by effort, not just outcomes. “No one is stupid. Whatever you do, ensure you are doing it to the best of your ability,” he said, pushing students to give their best in all their endeavors.

As the competition progressed, the school’s four houses—Red, Green, White, and Blue—fought fiercely for the coveted top spot. The event saw strong performances from all teams, with each house putting forth their best effort in a variety of athletic events. When the scores were finally tallied, Red House emerged as the winner with a total of 466 points, followed by Green House with 416 points, White House with 395 points, and Blue House with 355 points.

Mr. Jobateh, the kunda master of the Red House, was pleased with the results, expressing his pride in the students’ determination and sportsmanship. The event not only showcased athletic talent but also embodied the values of discipline, teamwork, and excellence that the teachers instils in the students throughout the year.

The Yunus English School community celebrated the success of the competition, with Red House claiming victory as the 2025 Inter-House Athletic Competition champions. The spirit of friendly competition, perseverance,
and mutual respect will undoubtedly remain at the heart of the school’s ethos long after the final scores were announced.
The excitement continues as the Inter-House Athletic Competition will wrap up tomorrow with a highly anticipated football match at the Busumbala football field at 4:00 pm. The match will feature ex-students facing off against the school team, many of whom play for the under-17 and other divisional teams. Mr. Tabally invited everyone to attend the match, saying, “If you want to see some great football, be sure to be there by 4 pm!”
