Young Man Remanded for Shop Breaking and Theft of D7,000

A young man, Saikou Kijera, was on Thursday, 9th October 2025, arraigned before Magistrate K.B. Sambou of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on two counts of shop breaking and stealing.

On the first count, Saikou Kijera was charged with shop breaking, contrary to Section 258(b) of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused, on or about 27th September 2025, at Sotokoi Village, Kombo East District, West Coast Region, broke the shop of one Pa Hassan Tamba and entered, thereby committing an offence.

On the second count, he was charged with stealing, contrary to Section 226 of the same Act. The prosecution alleged that on the same date and place, the accused, Saikou Kijera, stole D7,000 belonging to Pa Hassan Tamba.

When the charges were read and explained to him in Mandinka, which he understood, the accused pleaded guilty to both counts.

Prosecutor Preirea then applied for a short adjournment to enable the prosecution to present the facts of the case before sentencing.

Magistrate Sambou granted the application and adjourned the case to 13th October 2025 for facts and sentencing. The accused was remanded in custody until the next hearing.
