Muhammad S Bah, the former president of the Gambia Press Union, has said on his social media handle that the media must strive to push for reforms that favor the work of journalists.
Mr Bah, who remained solid in the advocating for press freedom, was expressing concerns about the plights of media workers in observance of World Press Freedom Day.
“We must continue to push for reforms that truly empower the media to do its job independently and responsibly.
While we call for accountability, we must also turn the mirror on ourselves as journalists in The Gambia. Are we truly living up to our responsibility? Are we staying true to the ethical principles that guide our noble profession?”
He emphasizes that it’s also a time to look critically at our environment, the laws, the policies, and the attitudes that shape press freedom in our country
“World Press Freedom Day is a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the progress we’ve made in amplifying the voices of the people without fear, favor, or restriction.”
” We must continue to push for reforms that truly empower the media……” MS Bah
