The Vice President and 17 cabinet ministers appeared before the National Assembly during the Fourth Ordinary Session, as lawmakers intensified oversight of government policy and performance as the assembly adjourned sittings on Wednesday.
According to the adjournment motion read by Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, ministers were subjected to oral questions and required to respond to committee reports in line with the Standing Orders. Portfolios represented included finance, justice, health, interior, foreign affairs, agriculture, energy, defence, and public service.
The Assembly also received ministerial replies to reports on the 2020 audited government accounts, state-owned enterprises, tourism facilities, transhumance activities, and oversight visits to The Gambia’s mission in Bissau.
Beyond questioning ministers, lawmakers considered and passed several key bills, including legislation on climate change, cybercrime, communications, population management, and food security.
As the session closed, members were urged to exercise responsibility in public discourse as the country approaches an election year, while reassuring citizens that economic and governance concerns raised during the session remain under parliamentary attention.
