UDP’s Njie Backs Barrow’s ‘Vulture Politician’ Claim

By: Kemo Kanyi

Karamo Njie, the United Democratic Party (UDP)’s official has expressed support for President Adama Barrow’s characterization of opportunist politicians as “vultures.”

Mr. Njie who is UDP’s Public Relations Officer for the North Bank Region was speaking during an interview with the Voice Newspaper over the weekend.

Njie responded to remarks by Unite Movement for Change (UMC)’s Spokesperson Kemo Bojang, who dismissed President Barrow’s claims. He says Barrow’s description aptly applies to Talib Bensouda and his supporters, whom he accused of pretending to align with the UDP while secretly undermining efforts to unify the party.

“President Barrow has never split or formed any rival faction within the UDP during his time in the party,” Njie said. “He left the UDP only after years of service and sacrifice for both the party and the country. Unlike Talib and his camp, Barrow never sought to sabotage the party’s principles. All positions he held were given to him by the party,” he stated. “Talib and his group, however, sought leadership by discrediting and secretly campaigning against party leader Ousainou Darboe. They aimed to unceremoniously dethrone Darboe. They are indeed vultures driven by opportunism.”

Njie added that President Barrow respected the UDP’s internal democratic processes and never rushed to secure the party’s top position, unlike Talib and his followers, who became disgruntled and left after their preferred candidate withdrew from the flagbearer race.

The UDP official expressed confidence that the party remains strong across its traditional strongholds and urged Gambians not to support groups that prioritize personal ambition over national interest.
