UDP Supporters call on the State to Drop Charges against Dibba & Kassama

A multitude of the United Democratic Party supporters who amassed at the trial of Ebrima Dibba and Bakary Kassama told the New Global Media that the move was politically motivated.

The duo were arraigned at the Banjul Magistrate Court this morning on charges of uttering seditious words against the President, violating Section 52(1)(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 10, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia.

“President Barrow himself is always verbally attacking opponents with negative sentiments,” says Aramata Njie

Safiatou Jobe of Latrikunda says the President is gradually turning into a dictator.

“It is so sad that the President dislikes criticism. Citizens have the right to freedom of speech and expression,” Lamin Njie asserted.

Ismailia Marong, Janko Bojang, and Ali Sowe expressed similar sentiments and called for the state to drop charges against the accused unconditionally.

It was a mixed feeling among the UDP supporters this morning as they traveled afar to witness the trial.

Meanwhile, the police did not present a formal charge sheet this morning.

According to them, the investigation continues while the accused are required to report regularly while on bail.
