United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainou Darboe issued a stern warning to President Adama Barrow, suggesting that the land allocated to him by the state could be reclaimed under a new government.
During a gathering in Brikama for UDP’s Yellow Day, Mr. Darboe highlighted the controversial nature of the land allocation, calling it an inappropriate appropriation of government property. He urged President Barrow to cease any development on the land, implying that it was in the President’s best interest to do so.
“The plot was stolen by them. My advice to you (President Barrow) is: stop any development on that land because that is in your own interest. Because if you continue with any development on that land – a government asset that you converted to your own property – you may lose it if there is a change. Because, already, you have been warned that this should not go on,” Darboe asserted.
Mr. Darboe’s remarks were a direct call to action for Gambians, urging them to stand against what he described as an unjust allocation of state resources. “I ask all Gambians to rise up and say that this appropriation of government property has to be rescinded and let the property revert back to the government of The Gambia,” he said.
This strong stance by the UDP chief reflects the ongoing tension and scrutiny surrounding the actions of President Barrow’s administration, particularly in terms of state asset management. Darboe’s warning adds to the political discourse in The Gambia, emphasizing accountability and the proper use of government resources.
