The Alkalos of Tanji and Batokunku have been suspended following allegations of selling state-owned land, despite repeated warnings to desist from such activities.

Authorities have ordered both chiefs to hand over all official materials to the regional governor while investigations continue.
Speaking at a press conference, Lands Minister Hamat Bah said the government was committed to cracking down on illegal land dealings. He stressed that those found guilty would face strict punishment.
“The Alkalo of Tanji, who was warned last year, and the Alkalo of Batokunku have been immediately suspended from their duties,” he said.
“The governor has been directed to ensure all instruments and records related to their offices are handed over while investigations are ongoing. We will continue to pursue anyone misusing public resources for personal gain, whether they are local authorities or government officials,’ he added.
He highlighted that these actions were part of a broader effort to ensure transparency in land administration. Illegal land sales have been a persistent problem in the region, often resulting in disputes and loss of public trust.
Authorities said the investigation will determine the full extent of the illegal transactions and whether other officials were involved.
