Ba -Hira Drammeh an elderly man from Brikama Gidda escaped unharmed earlier this morning when three boys attempted to snatch his mobile phone on his way from the mosque.
He was heard yelling as the boys grabbed him but luckily for him some neighborhoods rushed to the scene and the boys vanished.
“They approached me disguised as they were greeting, surprisingly I saw the old boy attempting to forcefully take the mobile phone from the man. The other man was speaking in a Malian dialect. When they saw women going, they quickly ran away”
No of the attackers were identified but the victim said he heard them spreading in the ‘ Bambara’ dialect assuming that they might be Malians.
Thieves have been targeting people who go for the early morning prayers as well as breaking into their houses.
“From now on, I will go with my son to the mosque. We have some non-Gambians in our neighborhood who engaged in criminal activities.”
However, the community says they remained vigilant but criminals seem to have different tactics in their operations
” We stay with people in the same compound who only enter at night and go out early in the morning. This is a concern because we don’t know what they are doing for a living.”
Ba-Hira urges neighborhoods to be properly there when going to the mosque for morning prayers.
