The Tragic Fall of Pa Kamara: A Tale of Betrayal and Regret

By: Abu Bakarr Kamara (Pope).

Long ago, during the early 2000s, there lived two lovely spouses named Madam Isatu Kamara and Pa Mohamed Kamara. They lived in a remote region in Freetown called Kuntoloh. Mr. and Mrs. Kamara were traders who relied on their petty trading to fend for their small family. Pa Kamara was an article seller, while Madam Kamara was a ‘koulture’ seller.

Pa Kamara mostly went to the neighboring regions to do his business, while his wife stayed at home to sell her ‘koulture.’ At the end of each day, they would sit in their room and discuss their daily encounters. This gave them joy and happiness as they would make fun, smile, and laugh amicably with each other. After their discussions about their encounters, they would pray and go to bed.

One fateful morning, Pa Kamara went out to do his business as usual, but something terrible happened on his way. He met a beautiful woman sitting alone in one corner of the road, crying. He was about to pass by when he saw the woman. He tried to distance himself from the road where the woman was sitting, but couldn’t hold himself.

He later went to the woman and asked her what was wrong. She explained that her husband had mercilessly flogged and driven her from their house, because she had mistakenly lost a huge amount of money given to her to keep. Pa Kamara said, “Why would a man do such a thing to his wife just because of money?” The woman replied, “I have pleaded with him to give me time to refund the money, but he coulddn’t listen. He had torn all my clothes, burned some of my properties, and told me never to return to his house again.”

Pa Kamara felt sympathy for the woman’s situation. He told her to follow him to their home so he and his wife could find a way to solve the issue for her. The woman at first declined the proposal, but Pa Kamara persisted, and she eventually agreed.

Pa Kamara took her home and explained to his wife what had happened. His wife, Madam Kamara, didn’t like the idea of the woman staying with them but was later convinced and agreed. Madam Kamara asked the woman for her name and her tribe. The woman told her that her name was Ya Kadiatu Conteh and that she was a Limba. The family decided to help Ya Kadiatu get back on her feet, so she was given some money to start a business.

At first, things were moving happily for them. Madam Kamara and the woman usually played and laughed together, bonding over the connection they had formed. Pa Kamara was very happy as the woman had become part of their happy family.

In the following months, things changed. Pa Kamara started spending more time with the woman than with his wife. The neighbors sensed it and began telling Madam Kamara about the hidden affairs between her husband and Ya Kadiatu, but she didn’t take the issue seriously. She thought her husband was just trying to be good to their new family member. She never confronted her husband about the issue, nor Ya Kadiatu. Unknowingly to her, the hidden affairs between the two continued for months.

One midnight, while they were sleeping, Pa Kamara quietly woke up from their matrimonial room and went to where Ya Kadiatu was sleeping. Madam Kamara momentarily woke up, couldn’t find her husband, and decided to look for him. On her way searching, she heard some noise coming from Ya Kadiatu’s room and wondered what Ya Kadiatu was doing at that time of the night. She went slowly to the door, opened it quietly, and was shocked by what she saw. She couldn’t believe her eyes and went closer to confirm. She clearly saw Pa Kamara sweating while having intimacy with Ya Kadiatu.

She shouted, “You! Pa Kamara, why?” She left the room and went outside to cry. Both of them were shocked, and the woman was totally frightened. Pa Kamara later calmed her, telling the woman that nothing would happen.

To be continued…

QUESTION:

How do you think Madam Kamara will handle the betrayal she found out about, and what will her actions mean for Pa Kamara, Ya Kadiatu, and their family in the future?
