The Gambia Immigration Department intercepts 76 people planning to embark on backway journey

The Gambia Immigration Department has intersected potential irregular migrants after receiving a tip of information about their activities.

GID has intersected a total of 76 intending immigrants, including 3 minors who were planning to leave the source of the country. Three women were also in the midst.

51 immigrants were arrested by the Barra Immigration Post and 25 were arrested by the Gunjur Immigration Post.

Inspector Siman Lowe, the Public Relations Officer of The Gambia Immigration Department, said the potential immigrants were 68 Gambians, 2 Senegalese, 2 Guineans, 2 Bissau nationals, a Nigerian and a Sierra Leonean.

He stated that The Gambia Immigration Department is mandated to control, monitor, and regulate the movement of people within the country, which they are firmly promoting.
