Talìb visits Serrekunda Market following the fracas between the shop owners and tobaski sales vendors

The Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), Talib Ahmed Bensouda, has made a high-profile visit to Serrekunda Market in response to growing tensions between store owners and street vendors (commonly known as wanterr).

The unrest, which has persisted over the past week, has raised concerns among both residents and market stakeholders regarding space allocation, access, and market order. Mayor Bensouda’s visit is part of an effort to de-escalate tensions and restore calm and organization within one of The Gambia’s busiest commercial hubs.

The mayor was accompanied by senior council officials, market heads, and key community leaders, underscoring the seriousness with which the matter is being addressed.

During the visit, Mayor Bensouda engaged with both store proprietors and wanterr vendors to better understand their grievances and to explore solutions that promote harmony and fair use of market space.
