Sulayman Waan Declares Presidential Bid Under The Change Front, Promises “Real Change” for The Gambia

By Michaella Faith Wright

Independent aspirant and leader of The Change Front (CF), Sulayman Waan, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 presidential election, pledging to bring “real change” that will transform The Gambia into a modern and prosperous nation.

Speaking during a press briefing to announce his candidacy, Waan expressed gratitude and faith in the nation, extending warm greetings “from Banjul, Basse to the diaspora, from our towns to our villages.”

“I greet you all with humility, with gratitude, and unshakable faith in the promise of our beloved nation, The Gambia,” he said. “Today, I stand before you not only as Sulayman Waan, a son of this soil, a journalist who has walked among you and shared in your hopes, but as a servant ready to take on the highest responsibility of our land.”

Waan said that after years of reflection, service, and sacrifice, he is ready to lead under The Change Front, stressing that Gambians deserve better. “We are a nation blessed with brilliant people, rich culture, fertile land, and unmatched resilience, yet we continue to suffer under the weight of high living costs, a fragile economy, failing healthcare, struggling education, and widespread unemployment,” he noted.

He added that his vision centres on “a unified and corruption-free Gambia, an economy that works for all, modern agriculture ensuring food security, improved healthcare, quality education, and a secure, just society.”

Waan promised practical policies aimed at economic transformation, agricultural modernisation, education reform, and financial prudence to uplift every Gambian within a reasonable period.
