Skipping Breakfast: student say it affects learning, concentration in classroom.

 

It is important to note that students need balance breakfast before going to school in the morning.

While ensuring that the right nutrients are available in their diet, parents must explore a variety of meal options. provides adequate nutrients to meet the breakfast needs.

In an interview with this medium students stressed that milk can be incorporated into kids ‘ breakfast options, from pancakes to cereals to oats to pap which to a large extend help to to concentrate in during lessons.Lamin Joof ,a student of Bottrop School School in Brikama maintained that:”Parents need to ensure that kids benefit from the essential nutrients therein to help boost their growth to a brighter future.”

Meanwhile,Fanta Njie a home science student at Mahad Senior Secondary School also stressed the importance of beginning the day with wholesome food rather than sugar-laden convenience snacks.

“Skipping any meal is not healthy, including breakfastThe brain does not have reserves for glucose; it relies on carbohydrates from breakfast to function daily.” She added

According to Lai Bojang a science student of Jamisa Senior School,when a child skips breakfast, they may not function optimally.

” skipping breakfast increases cravings for unhealthy snacks and may lead to overeating later in the day — a pattern that raises the risk of obesity and related conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and kidney problems.”

Many students we spoke to in a vox pop ,caution parents against giving their children pastries, sugary drinks, and other junk foods before school, warning that such meals impair concentration.

“Junk foods have high sugar, fat, and salt content. They are quickly broken down, giving a short burst of energy that fades fast, leaving the brain with little fuel. This can affect learning and attention in the classroom,” Sheriff Jobe of Jamisa said.

Ellen Mendy who says he often skips breakfast children who regularly come to school hungry which affected his concentration and classworks performance.

For an ideal breakfast, the nutritionist recommended nutrient-dense, fibre-rich meals containing proteins such as eggs, milk, yoghurt, and beans, alongside whole-grain cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
