Six Young Boys Appear in Court Over Housebreaking, Stealing Charges

By: Dawda M Jallow

Six young boys, aged between 13 and 19, were put in police custody on Monday by Brikama Magistrates’ Court, pending proof of their real ages.

The boys: Samba Ceesay, 16, Hamza Maiga, 17, Muhammed Sillah, 19, Ebrima Bangura, 13, Abubacarr Conta, 13, and Abubacarr Jimbara, 14—stood before Magistrate M. Dem facing charges of conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.

Sgt J. Preirea, representing the Inspector General of Police, informed the court that none of the boys were represented by legal counsel. When Magistrate Dem inquired about proof of their ages, Sgt Preirea admitted that no birth certificates had been presented, and none of the boys’ parents had appeared at the police station since their arrest. The boys stated their birth certificates were with their mothers.

The magistrate then adjourned the case to December 8, 2025, instructing that the boys’ birth certificates be produced in court. Until then, the six will remain in police custody.

According to the charge sheet, the boys are accused of conspiring on September 9, 2025, in Kitty Village, West Coast Region, to commit a felony. They are also charged with breaking into the home of Adeline Basangeh on the same date with the intent to steal, and allegedly taking window glass and floor tiles valued at 40,000 dalasis.

The case raises concerns about the involvement of minors in criminal activity and the importance of parental oversight and documentation in legal proceedings.
