Sierra Leonean National Granted Bail in Breaking and Theft Case

A Sierra Leonean national, on Thursday, 9th October 2025, was arraigned before Magistrate M. Dem of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for breaking into a building with the intent of committing a felony and stealing.  

Going by the charge on count one, Khail was charged with breaking into a building with intent to commit a felony, contrary to Section 258 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. And count two stated that Khail was charged with stealing contrary to section 226 of the same act. The prosecution alleged that on the same date and place, the accused stole D50,000 and 150 euros belonging to Ansu Ceesay.

According to the offence particulars, the accused, on or about the 1st October 2025, at Gunjur, Kombo South District, West Coast Region, allegedly broke into the house of one Ansu Ceesay with the intent to commit a felony.

After the charges were read and explained to him in open court, the accused pleaded not guilty to both counts.

Prosecutor Sallah applied for an adjournment to enable him to secure his witnesses, while he did not raise any objection to the bail of the accused.

Magistrate Dem granted the prosecution’s application and released the accused on bail in the sum of D60,000 with one Gambian surety, aged 40 years or above. The surety is required to deposit a valid national ID card or passport with the court registrar.

The case was adjourned to 22nd November 2025 for the testimony of the first prosecution witness (PW1).
