Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday arrived in London to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria.
Buhari died in a London hospital on Sunday.
Shettima was joined by his wife, Nana Shettima, and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of a presidential delegation dispatched to the British capital by President Tinubu’.
Shortly after their arrival at the hospital, members of the delegation completed necessary formalities before preparing the late former President’s body for the final journey back home.
The entourage was welcomed by a delegation that included the Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
Once official arrangements are finalised in London, Buhari’s body will be transported to Abuja and then onwards to Daura in Katsina State, where burial rites will be conducted according to Islamic tradition.
President Tinubu, who announced the former leader’s passing, has ordered national flags to be flown at half-mast and directed a period of mourning.
