The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has announced significant progress in the investigation into the death of Mr. Gabriel Adiaga, a 44-year-old Nigerian national residing in The Gambia.

According to a police statement released on October 18, 2025, the case was first reported on October 14 after a friend informed authorities that Mr. Adiaga’s family in Nigeria had been unable to reach him for several days. Investigators at the Serekunda Division immediately launched a search operation and began inquiries around the victim’s residence.

On October 15, a partially burned body was discovered at Sting Corner, prompting intensified investigations. Within eight hours, officers arrested Wurry Barry, a Gambian national, who later confessed to the crime.

Investigations revealed that on October 13, a violent altercation occurred between the suspect and the deceased at Mr. Adiaga’s residence, leading to his death. In an attempt to conceal the crime, the suspect allegedly cleaned the scene, transported the body to Sting Corner, and set it on fire along with other items. He later returned to the residence to remove bloodstains and destroy additional evidence.

Police recovered key exhibits, including the suspected murder weapon (an iron rod), blood-stained clothing, the victim’s motorcycle and house keys, and other forensic evidence, all now in police custody.

The GPF commended its team for professionalism and diligence, highlighting the case as a testament to the Force’s growing capacity in intelligence-led policing and forensic investigation.

“The suspect remains in custody and will be processed in accordance with due legal procedures,” the statement added. “Investigators continue to determine the motive behind the incident.”

The GPF reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, ensuring justice, and maintaining public confidence through professionalism, diligence, and transparency.
