Salaam Family ‘Takaful’ Settles Maiden Death Claim

By Dawda Jallow

Salaam Family Takaful Insurance, one of the country’s fastest-growing and most trusted insurance providers, last Tuesday paid its first-ever death claim to the family of the late Mr. Hamat Faal, former principal of Amur Bun AHSS, an Islamic school in Tanji.

The company issued a cheque of Thirty Thousand Dalasi (D30,000) to the bereaved family. This payment was in line with the policy agreement, which promised that once a client joined the “Salaam Care Plus” policy and paid the first monthly premium of Five Hundred Dalasi (D500), the company would honor the full benefits of the five-year policy in the event of death.

Mr. Faal had paid only five of the sixty months required under the policy before his untimely passing. Despite this, Salaam Family Takaful honored its commitment, demonstrating its dedication to supporting clients and their families even before the policy matured.

A high-level delegation led by Salaam Family Takaful CEO, Mr. Ndenneh Senghore, visited the family to present the cheque. Accompanying him were Mr. Kwabena O. Adjei, Business Development Manager; Modou Jammeh, Operations Supervisor; Salim Ceesay, Finance Director; and representatives from the General Secretariat for Islamic and Arabic Education (AMANAA), including Omar Jarjue, Cluster Monitor for Region 2. Members of the media were also present.

In his speech, Mr. Senghore expressed condolences to the family and reflected on the late principal’s contribution to education. “It was our wish for Mr. Faal to enjoy the full maturity of his policy and receive all entitlements, but Allah had other plans. We pray for Allah’s mercy on him,” he said.

He praised AMANAA for partnering with Salaam Family Takaful to promote Islamic-compliant insurance policies in schools, describing the collaboration as “trustworthy and vital.” Mr. Senghore emphasized that insurance agreements are legal and moral commitments between the insurer and the insured, which the company upholds even in unforeseen circumstances.

Other speakers at the ceremony, including Lamin Fatty, current principal of Amur Bun AHSS, and Muhammed Nasir Faal, son of the late principal, commended Salaam Family Takaful for honoring its promise despite the policy not having reached maturity. They described the gesture as a “significant and reassuring step for all policyholders.”

The event highlighted Salaam Family Takaful’s commitment to Islamic principles and community support, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable and client-focused insurance provider.
