Joren Basic Cycle School (BCS) is grappling with safety concerns as the end of the school term approaches. The school, which began a renovation project in early September 2024 under the supervision of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBoSE), is still awaiting the completion of the works.
Two blocks of classrooms were earmarked for renovation at the start of the first term, but critical components, such as doors, have yet to be installed. This leaves the classrooms exposed and poses safety and security risks to students, teachers, and school property.
A concerned source close to the school expressed frustration over the delay: “MBoSE started renovating these blocks in September, and now the term is about to end, yet the doors are not fixed. This situation is unsafe, especially as the school prepares to close.”
The delay has raised concerns not only about safety but also about the timely resumption of teaching and learning in the next term. The source called on MBoSE to address the issue promptly, ensuring that the school environment is secure and conducive to education.
As the school community awaits action, stakeholders urge MBoSE to expedite the completion of the renovation project, prioritizing the safety and well-being of Njoren BCS students and staff.
