Freetown FC staged a thrilling comeback to secure a semi-final spot in the ongoing Kitty Sports Committee (KSC) summer Nawettan, defeating Late Abdou Colley FC in a dramatic showdown at the Kitty Football Field on Saturday.
Late Abdou Colley FC looked set for glory, racing to a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes. Captain Ebrima Jurju opened the scoring in the 9th minute, and Cherno Colley doubled their advantage in the 17th minute, putting them in control.
However, Freetown FC refused to bow out. Kebba Bojang pulled one back in the 34th minute, sparking renewed energy among the Kitty-based side and their fans. On the stroke of halftime, Modou Lamin Bissidy restored parity, leveling the score at 2-2 and setting up a tense finish.
The match went to a penalty shootout, where Freetown FC held their nerve, converting all five of their spot-kicks to claim a 5-4 victory. The result ended Late Abdou Colley FC’s hopes of securing silverware and booked Freetown FC’s place in the semi-finals.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, showcasing determination, resilience, and the competitive spirit of the KSC Nawettan tournament.
