President Barrow laid the foundation of Sanyang Deep Sea Port

The historic groundbreaking ceremony for constructing the Deep Sea Port in Sanyang marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward robust economic development. This ambitious project symbolises a strong commitment by the Barrow government to investing in crucial infrastructure, which is vital for fostering sustainable growth and uplifting the lives of Gambians.

Once operational, the Deep Sea Port is set to transform the economic landscape, propelling the nation forward while generating a wealth of job opportunities. This monumental venture promises to enhance trade and commerce, ultimately paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for all Gambians.

The event held in the coastal town of Sanyang was attended by government ministers, senior officials, diplomats, and representatives of the Turkish firm Albayrak Group, which is leading the construction.

The port is designed to handle large vessels with a minimum depth of 12 meters. Once completed, it is expected to enhance cargo handling, reduce shipping delays, and position Sanyang as a strategic maritime hub.

The government expects the project to stimulate economic activity by increasing trade volumes, attracting foreign investment, and creating employment opportunities in logistics, port operations, and related sectors. It is also expected to spur additional infrastructure development in the region, including transport and utility networks.
