President Barrow Calls Opportunistic Politicians as “Vultures”

By Kemo Kanyi

President Adama Barrow has described certain politicians who avoid participating in the country’s political landscape as “vultures” who only act when opportunities arise after others have fallen.

Speaking during his holiday address to the public, President Barrow criticized politicians who were afraid to engage during former President Yahya Jammeh’s tenure but are now eyeing the presidency.

“When Jammeh was in power, these politicians never associated themselves with politics. Others have done their ‘Jihad’ and already achieved it. They have sacrificed and now intend to sideline those Jihadists. Such politicians are vultures. They only reach an animal when it is completely dead and its tail cannot move,” he said.

President Barrow added that such politicians are now rising to challenge him because he is “fully adhering to democracy” and does not rely on force. “They know that Jammeh has gone for eternity. They now rise to challenge for the presidency because it is President Barrow who is here, practicing democracy. I do not have a stick or a gun. So, they now want to remove me and get to the seat,” he stated.

Turning to his administration’s development initiatives, President Barrow dismissed critics who described his government’s promises as unrealistic. He highlighted the expansion of electricity to over 1,100 communities across The Gambia since taking office, asking, “How many communities benefited from electricity expansion projects in 50 years of the regimes?”

The President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to development, emphasizing that his programs have positively transformed many Gambian communities since he assumed office.
