President Barrow Betrayed All His Coalition Partners” — Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang

In a recent media interview, former Vice President of The Gambia, Madam Fatoumatta Jallow-Tambajang, accused President Adama Barrow of betraying all the political partners who formed the 2016 coalition government.

“It was President Barrow who betrayed all his coalition partners and not the other way around,” she declared. “There was a signed agreement that clearly outlined a three-year transitional mandate.

I still have the original signed document, which was endorsed by all coalition members, including President Barrow himself.”

Madam Jallow-Tambajang emphasized that the agreement was not a verbal understanding but a formal, written contract among all parties. “President Barrow willfully dishonored that agreement,” she added.

Reflecting on the formation of the coalition in 2016, she noted that the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) was the most challenging party to convince.

“All the other political parties were relatively easy to bring on board. PDOIS was very difficult to convince, but eventually, we succeeded in uniting as one strong force,” she said.

Speaking about her dismissal from the position of Vice President in 2018, she described the move as politically motivated. “To this day, President Barrow has not provided a clear explanation for my removal,” she stated. “I strongly believe it was a political decision.”

Madam Jallow-Tambajang also highlighted her contributions to national development during her time in office. “The National Development Plan (NDP), which the current administration often references, was developed by myself and former Finance Minister Amadou Sanneh,” she explained.

She concluded by stressing that the government still has significant work to do. “Many of the promises made by this administration remain unfulfilled. There is still a long way to go,” she remarked.
