Police Urges Victims of Cross-Border Fraud to Report to Nearest Police Station

The Gambia Police Force has called on alleged victims of cross-border scams, including those allegedly scammed by outside vehicle salers, to report their matters to the nearest police stations.

“Once a complaint is properly lodged, the matter is assessed and processed under the appropriate criminal provisions. Where cross-border elements are involved, the National Central Bureau (NCB) INTERPOL in The Gambia works within international cooperation mechanisms to facilitate information sharing and lawful investigative support,” GPF said in a media advisory announcement on Friday.

The announcement came following increased public concerns circulating on social media regarding alleged fraudulent vehicle sale activities reportedly involving persons operating outside The Gambia.

The statement further urged those affected to seek legal advice as there are clear distinctions between criminal and civil matters.

Police encouraged responsible journalism and fact-based reporting as it plays a key role in public accountability, and assured the public of its commitment to investigate all reported criminal matters in accordance with the law.
